The FIA World Rally Championships has arrived in Umeå, Sweden for the second round of the 2022 season. With the pre-rally shakedown being the first look at the new breed of Hybrid rally1 cars on the snow and ice.

Finlands Kalle Rovanperä topped the timings for Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT, getting to grips in the conditions in his Toyota Yaris GR through the short 7.59km Klabböle test. The young Finn who is the first car on the road in Sweden posted a time that was just 0.3 seconds faster than the Estonian Ott Tänak in the Hyundai i20N.

Tänak Hyundai team-mate Thierry Neuville posted the third-fastest time but it wasn’t a trouble-free shakedown for Neuville, who along with M-Sport Fords Craig Breen, visited a snowbank on the first pass.

In the WRC2 Class Nicolay Gryazin topped the category with a pair of Fins, Andreas Mikkelsen and Ole Christian Veiby both posted the exact same times behind.
